Here at Point2, we love thinking about the future! (We’re total technology geeks, it’s true.) In the past we’ve written posts about the homes of the future and reviewed some pretty cool predictions about what the listings of tomorrow will look like.
Today we’re happy to announce that tomorrow might be here even sooner than we thought!
Modern 3D printing technology is making it possible to actually print homes, often very efficiently in terms of both cost and materials. 3D printing is the process of “printing” a three-dimensional object from a digital file using thin, successive layers of material. Instead of ink, the printer lays down layer after layer of material, often a polymer. Imagine have the power to print anything you want at the touch of a button – a cup, makeup, new legs, even a house!
Let’s take a closer look at three 3D printed homes:
WinSun Decoration Design Engineering Constructs 10 Buildings in One Day
In China, a company used a giant 3D printer to print giant blocks using a mixture of sand, concrete and glass fiber. The blocks were then quickly assembled to build 10 houses in just one day! The cost to produce each building is just around $5000. Is this the future of prefab housing?
Tour the 3D Print Canal House in Amsterdam
The 3D Print Canal House is open in Amsterdam for public tours as it’s being built! This innovative, multi-storied home will be made entirely out of plastic. You can get more info about the project on the 3D Print Canal House website and check in on their progress on Facebook.
World’s First 3D Printed Castle
Andrey Rudenko wants to 3D print a full-sized house, and to prove he will be able to do it, he started by building a castle! He constructed his very own printer that prints concrete. Get the full story here.
Do you think you’ll be listing 3D printed homes in your future career as a real estate agent?!?
